Are you ready to make a mental change?

Life coaching

Life coaching is a forward-focused, collaborative process that helps you identify where you are now, where you want to be, and the practical steps needed to get there. Unlike counselling or psychotherapy, which often explore past experiences and emotional difficulties, life coaching is primarily concerned with helping you create positive change in the present and future. It is designed for people who want to improve their confidence, gain clarity, overcome obstacles, achieve personal or professional goals, or simply create a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Many people know they want something to change but struggle to identify exactly what that is or how to move forward. It is easy to become stuck in familiar routines, held back by self-doubt, fear of failure, or limiting beliefs. Life coaching provides a supportive and structured environment where you can explore your ambitions, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and develop realistic strategies that move you closer to the life you want to live.

As your coach, I won’t tell you what decisions to make or what direction you should take. Instead, I work alongside you, asking thoughtful questions, helping you gain insight into your strengths and values, and supporting you in finding solutions that feel right for you. Together we can identify barriers that may be preventing progress, improve motivation and accountability, and build the confidence needed to make lasting changes.

Life coaching can help with a wide range of areas, including career development, improving confidence and self-esteem, managing work-life balance, developing healthier habits, improving relationships, increasing motivation, overcoming procrastination, and setting meaningful personal or professional goals. It is equally valuable for people facing a major life transition or for those who simply want to unlock more of their potential.

My approach to coaching is supportive, practical, and tailored to your individual needs. Every person has different experiences, strengths, and aspirations, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Together we create realistic goals, break them down into manageable steps, and regularly review your progress to ensure you remain focused and motivated throughout the process.

Alongside my experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, I hold a Professional Life Coaching Diploma from the Institute of Counselling. This professional training has provided me with the knowledge, skills, and ethical framework to deliver coaching that is both effective and person-centred. My background as a psychotherapist, counsellor, and coach also enables me to recognise when coaching alone is appropriate and when a more therapeutic approach may better support your needs.

Ultimately, life coaching is about empowering you to take control of your future. Whether you have a clear goal in mind or simply know that life could feel more rewarding, coaching can provide the clarity, confidence, and accountability needed to make meaningful and lasting changes. With the right support, even small, consistent steps can lead to significant personal growth and help you become the person you want to be

Mentoring

Mentoring is a supportive, collaborative relationship where someone with knowledge, experience, and understanding helps another person develop the confidence, skills, and perspective needed to move forward in life. Unlike counselling, which often focuses on emotional healing, or life coaching, which is centred on achieving future goals, mentoring draws upon both professional knowledge and real-life experience to provide practical guidance, encouragement, and accountability.

Life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or isolated. Whether you are facing personal challenges, navigating a significant life change, adapting to disability, rebuilding after trauma, or simply trying to find your direction, having someone who genuinely understands the journey can make a profound difference. A mentor offers support without judgement, helping you recognise your strengths, learn from setbacks, and develop the resilience needed to overcome obstacles.

At Mental Change, I believe that some of the most meaningful guidance comes not only from professional training but also from lived experience. My own life has been shaped by significant challenges, including childhood trauma, exposure to violence, serious injury, disability, and experiences with mental health. These experiences have fundamentally shaped the person and therapist I am today. They have taught me that change is rarely quick or straightforward, but with the right support, determination, and mindset, it is possible to build a meaningful and fulfilling life despite adversity.

As someone who lives with a spinal cord injury and uses a wheelchair, I understand first-hand how life can change in an instant. I also understand the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges that can follow. Rather than simply offering advice from textbooks, I bring genuine empathy, understanding, and lived insight into the mentoring relationship. While every person’s journey is unique, I know what it feels like to rebuild confidence, adapt to unexpected circumstances, and discover purpose after life has taken an entirely different direction.

Mentoring can help with many aspects of life, including building confidence, improving self-belief, managing change, adapting to disability, developing resilience, overcoming self-doubt, improving motivation, strengthening relationships, and making positive decisions about your future. It can also be invaluable for people entering the helping professions who would benefit from guidance, encouragement, and support from someone who has walked a similar path.

My approach is honest, supportive, and person-centred. I aim to create a safe and encouraging space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow at your own pace. Together we can explore challenges, celebrate successes, develop practical strategies, and work towards the life you want to create.

Alongside my personal experiences, I hold a Certificate in Mentoring at SCQF Level 8 from the Institute of Counselling, providing me with professional training in mentoring theory, ethical practice, communication, and personal development. This enables me to combine evidence-based mentoring techniques with genuine lived experience, offering support that is both professional and deeply authentic.

At Mental Change, mentoring is about more than simply offering guidance. It is about walking alongside you, helping you recognise your potential, and showing that no matter what has happened in your past, your future does not have to be defined by it. Sometimes, having someone who truly understands can be the first step towards creating lasting and meaningful change
